Reading is the best way to relax and even six minutes can be enough to reduce the stress levels by more than two thirds or 68%.

New research by consultancy Mindlab International at the University of Sussex says reading works better and faster than other methods to calm frazzled nerves such as listening to music, going for a walk or settling down with a cup of tea.

Please follow above link for more of the article.

We already knew all of this though!

Absolutely!!

You cannot beat a darn good read. Not only for calming you down, aiding good sleep but also for keeping the mind agile in many ways the natural daily events of life can suppress.

I would have put it slightly higher than that though

Perhaps because your mind isn't given enough time Durga? Sometimes when something is really getting to me, I have a hard time putting it far enough to the back of my mind to allow words in a real paper book to take over and allow me to forget for that short while.

In that case, what do is put on my mp3 and listen to music. LOUD. Or I might shout at Marc ( who will shout back telling me not to shout! :D) then hug me, tell me he's sorry for shouting etc., Sometimes we just need to vent first is what I'm saying ;)
If the music is loud enough, you literally cannot focus on anything else. Dont do it for more than one song or two though!!! that volume for any length of time will damage your hearing and that's something none of us want.

If it's my neighbours creating a loud noise and it's gettign to me, I switch on iTunes, put on the LOUD mega mix and play oasis LOUD. I guarantee I do not get past three songs before they've either quietened down or gone out!! :D works EVERY time!! especially the song 'Hindu times' Oh, they HATE 'New Order' & Blue Monday. :D the beat is literally like someone hammering on the walls LOL.....

I give as good as I get some times  Weeeelll.....If you can't beat them, join them!! :D
