The Stand is excellent. If you liked Cell then you probably like The Stand. It's a more epic version of Cell really, much longer. It's much more enjoyable than Cell as it's at a far slower pace but you get to know all the characters in depth. At well over a 1000 pages it doesn't out stay it's welcome, you never feel like it's dragging on too long, definitely one I'll re-read :)

Everthing's Eventual is ideal if you haven't got much time, short and snappy stories. Typical King stories in bite size :)

That's good that you have put The Magic Cottage on your Christmas list, it's such an easy book to get into, it will grab you right from beginning to end.

It seems to me I read at least part of The Stand many years ago. Did it come out originally in sections? I liked what I read back then. But somehow I don't think I read all of it.

Thanks Marc :) I will add "The Stand" to my wish list - maybe it's not too late, my Mum probably didn't buy presents yet ;) Short stories will have to wait a bit. Anyhow it's not my favourite form so i will not regret that much.

It wasn't released in sections Katherine but there was a mini-series on TV at one time, I never watched that though. The Stand was originally released in 1979 and re-released in 1990. Make sure Durga that it's the 1990 version, the complete and uncut edition. I'm sure that's the only version now available if you buy new anyway.
The re-released version added some text that was originally cut from the original, added some revised sections and also it updates the setting of the book to 1990 with more modern pop culture references of that time.

It's definitely a book you never forget :)

I've actually bought 3 of the books today, two at the Library Sale and one at the Garage Sale we found. Number One, and either 4 and 5 or 5 and 6...not sure, they're still buried in a box here on my right. Waiting to be listed on Library Thing.
