ANNIE MURRAY & "Where Earth Meets Sky"

Synopsis
Beautiful, dark-haired Lily has been abandoned in a Birmingham slum as a tiny child. With few clues as to her identity she endures a childhood of loneliness and loss. At eighteen she applies for a post as nanny with the family of a Captain Fairford, a soldier in Ambala, north India and his highly strung wife Susan. Lily is drawn into the emotional life of the Fairford family and adores her charge, two year old Cosmo. When, in 1907, Captain Fairford orders a new Daimler car, it is brought out by a young motor mechanic, Sam Ironside. Sam and Lily fall deeply in love, and it is only later that Lily learns that Sam is married and feels utterly betrayed. When Cosmo is later sent home to school, Lily finds another post with a Dr. McBride and his invalid wife, in a beautiful Himalayan hill station. The place is idyllic, and Lily settles for a quiet life. However, she is unprepared for the pain and misunderstandings that follow and force her to run from everything she has known ..."Where Earth Meets Sky" takes us from Edwardian England and the British Raj, through the darkness of the Great War to the glamour of Brooklands Race Track in the 1920s.

Spanning two continents, it is a story of enduring friendships and two hearts which cannot be kept apart.

Cecelia Ahern "P.S. I Love You"

Quote:
Some people wait their whole lives to find their soul mates. But not Holly and Gerry.

Childhood sweethearts, they could finish each other's sentences and even when they fought, they laughed. No one could imagine Holly and Gerry without each other.

Until the unthinkable happens. Gerry's death devastates Holly. But as her 30th birthday looms, Gerry comes back to her. He's left her a bundle of notes, gently guiding Holly into her new life without him, each note signed "P.S. I Love You."

As the notes are gradually opened, and as the year unfolds, Holly is both cheered up and challenged. The man who knows her better than anyone sets out to teach her that life goes on. With some help from her friends, and her noisy and loving family, Holly finds herself laughing, crying, singing, dancing - and being braver than ever before.

Life is for living, she realises - but it always helps if there's an angel watching over you.

There was also a movie based on the book, the same title :)

Liz, the moderator of this forum is still having problems with her internet cable company as they do remedial work near her home.
Anyone mind is we give it until Thurs/Fri before deciding to give her a chance to get back online? Marc and cobainco too, they work long hours and don't always have the time to post when they do get home each day.

I'm back!! Than you for waiting for me! :yourock:

DIdn't we agree that for thetime being we would take turns choosing the book of the month? I believe it was

June - Durga
July - Jakki
August - Liz
September - Marc

SInce we have a new member who would like to particioate, why don't we welcome Caliope by giving her the choice of July's book?

That would make the schedule

July - Caliope
August - Jakki
Septemeber - Liz
OCtober - Marc

Will that be OK? :)

That's fine by me Liz, but I've not seen our new member around here for a few days. I guess we have to decide how long we give her to log on and make her choice?

Hopefully she will be back very soon!

I see what you mean. Let's do it this way then:

July - Jakki
August - Liz
Septemeber - Marc
October - Durga

If Caliope participates in the first three discussions, then she can choose a book after Marc.

How does that sound?

That's fine by me Liz, if that's ok by everyone else? July's choice will be Annie Murray and 'Where Earth meets sky'
